Regardless of the fact that the world knows who Robbie Williams is bar the USA. This movie stands on its own as a great story even if you missed what the rest of the world sees in Robbie Williams. He is an incredible entertainer who is a major sucess in the rest of the world!!!!
Don't miss this movie just because he is not big here.
Oh my gosh, "was he a real person" is such a burn.
I had no idea who this man is and I'm grateful you reviewed this thing. It looked like a trainwreck and I wanted to know more about it without making any effort. Thanksnothanks, Robbie the monkey!
This movie is amazing. Robbie Williams has sold 20.36 million albums - just not in the US. Performed to 375,000 at one of the biggest concerts ever.... Well worth keeping an open mind and watching this iconic movie. There is a lot happening outside the US!
Such a good review. I have a weird relationship with Williams. Agreed he never really broke through here but in the early 00s there were enough songs of his I was familiar with to peak my interest. I liked his stuff. Recently I went to Spotify to listen to him and found I’d grossly exaggerated the number of bops and it was really like two. My husband grew up outside of the U.S. where Take That meant something and Williams was a bonafide pop star so we have different levels of nostalgia surrounding his fame
I like the meshing of “Johnny” the gorilla from “Sing” movies (plus Taron Egerton voices him and sings Elton John cover in Sing and was as we know John in the “Rocketman” you mentioned)
Who cares if he is not known in the USA. The rest of the world does and that's enough for Robbie Williams. He never tried to break America because he lives there and likes the anonymity.

I didn't even THINK of the Sing-Rocketman Taron Egerton connection!
I can’t see a CGI human-like monkey without thinking of Johnny
